Last Days In Vancouver

Today is my last day in Vancouver, as I leave tonight to head to Cetacealab for 3 months. I have spent the last couple of days catching up with friends before being marooned on a remote island for the summer.  On sunday I finished my last day of work and headed to a friends place after for dinner, little did I know that my Mavi co-workers had been planning a surprise party for me.  So sunday night was spent with good friends and good food and a pinata that refused to break! Monday I spent with good friends from the aquarium Karl and Rikki and we walked along the beach and spent the afternoon on Granville Island.  On the way we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the pair of nesting eagles on Kits beach. They were amazing and one flew right over our heads. Yesterday and today I spent most of my time making sure I have everything I need for the trip but also packing my suitcases as I will be leaving Canada almost as soon as I get back from Gil Island.

The journey ahead is a long one, 23 hrs on a grey hound bus to reach Prince Rupert, only to sleep a few hours in a hostel before jumping on a ferry from Prince Rupert to Hartley Bay which takes 3.5 hrs.  Even after this I still have a 1 hr boat trip to finally reach Gil Island.  All of this will be done with a huge amount of things I have packed in my backpack.

In the end though it will all be worth it as I get to spend 3 months watching and studying Orca, Humpback and Fin whales for three months!! Hopefully I will be able to post to this blog once a week with some pictures and keep everybody updated!
